Hope Community (“we,” “us”) is an online message board run by the CDG-PMM2 Hope Foundation for parents, caregivers and adults affected by CDG-PMM2. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
Who can join
Hope Community is for adults 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has created an account, please contact us and we will remove it.
What we collect
- Account information: your username, email address, password (stored in encrypted form), and display name.
- Profile information: anything you choose to add to your profile, such as your role (for example, parent or caregiver) or a short description of your family.
- What you post: topics, replies and messages you write on the board.
- Technical information: your IP address, browser type, and the date and time of your visits, which our hosting provider and security tools record automatically.
- Cookies: small files that keep you signed in and remember your language choice.
Health information you choose to share
Many members talk about their child’s health. Sharing is always your choice. Please share only what you’re comfortable with, use a first name or nickname, and never post full names, addresses, medical record numbers or photos of medical documents. Hope Community is not a healthcare provider, and what members post is shared experience, not medical advice.
Who can see what you post
Forums are visible only to approved, signed-in members. Your display name and profile are visible to other members. Administrators and moderators from the Hope Foundation can see all posts and member accounts so they can keep the community safe. Your email address is never shown to other members.
How we use your information
- To create and manage your account and approve new members.
- To show your posts and profile to other members.
- To send account emails, such as sign-up confirmations, password resets and reply notifications.
- To keep the board safe, including blocking spam and removing posts that break our Community Guidelines.
- To understand how the board is used so we can improve it.
We do not sell your information, and we do not use it for advertising.
Services that help run the site
We use a small number of trusted services. Each receives only the information it needs:
- GoDaddy hosts the website and stores its data.
- Google Translate (through GTranslate) translates pages when you choose a language. The text on the page is sent to Google to be translated.
- Akismet (Automattic) checks new posts and sign-ups for spam, which may include your IP address, email and the text you submit.
- UpdraftPlus makes backup copies of the site so it can be restored if something goes wrong.
How long we keep information
We keep your account and posts while your account is active. If you ask us to delete your account, we will delete your account information and either delete or anonymize your posts within 30 days, except for copies in backups, which are overwritten over time.
Your choices and rights
- You can edit your profile and posts at any time.
- You can ask us for a copy of your information, to correct it, or to delete your account.
- You can turn off email notifications in your account settings.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under local privacy laws. Contact us and we will help.
Security
We use encrypted connections (https), strong passwords for administrators, spam protection and regular backups. No website is completely secure, so please avoid posting anything you would not want shared.
Changes to this policy
If we make important changes, we will post an announcement on the board and update the date at the top of this page.
